Longview & Sulphur Springs, Tx — The Gunter Tigers, an 8U coach pitch baseball team, have won the Dixie Region III World Series and the Dixie Texas State Tournaments this summer.


The Gunter Tigers completed the regular season and district play with an undefeated record. After winning the All-Star district tournament in Melissa, the Tigers headed to Sulphur Springs for the 2010 Dixie Youth AA Coach Pitch State Tournament held July 3-7. After beating Prosper 2-of-3 in the finals, the Tigers headed to Longview July 16-19 for the Region III National Tournament.

The Gunter All-Star team played hard at the tournament, beating tough competition from area states and from Texas teams.


The Tigers played eight undefeated games to become the 2010 Dixie World Series Champions and outscored their opponents 126-23.

This is the first time in history that a team from Gunter, Texas has won State or advanced to the World Series in the Dixie Organization.


Several of the Tiger players received special recognition at the State tournament.


Jasek Hooker, Kyle Watson, and Zander Turner received home run balls for hitting it out of the park during the state tournament. Each player was presented a commemorative ball and case signed and presented by Texas Dixie League State Director Bill Sanders.

Coaches for the Gunter Tigers are Josh Lowe, Kyle Rigsby, Greg Whitteker, and Randall Denton.
